This is my daughter's favorite bilingual book and mine as well. This book has pinyin and simplified Chinese characters. I'm trying to teach my daughter Chinese but am only proficient in the language and can only read pinyin; she is often inpatient with me if I pause to figure out the pronunciation of something in other books. But this book has great illustrations that keep her engaged and entertained. A wide variety of topics are covered, including eating, sports, weather, clothing, family members, animals, Chinese New Year, etc so she never gets bored. Of course my toddler wants me to re-read the page (over and over again!) where the kids accidentally bump into each other and say "Sorry!" to each other but now she knows how to apologize in Chinese very well! Highly recommend this book!Product details

Rhythms and Tones Chants and Songs for Learning Chinese English and Chinese Edition Pauline Huang Robin Harvey Denis Bellocq 9780982022764 Books Reviews
My daughter has been taking Mandarin for several years, and she wants to pull this book out and do the songs - we listen, we chant... then start reading about each song. The pictures are fun and helpful. My daughter turned to me and said "Isn't this addictive? You can't stop!" What better recommendation could you want for a text book? Thank you Pauline Huang and Robin Harvey for your beautiful new text and Denis Bellocq for the colorful and helpful illustrations - a great textbook.
We received this as a gift when a family friend and Mandarin teacher learned we were taking Chinese classes with our 2 and a half year old son. At first I was skeptical that a songbook would help and frankly was scared it'd be a bit too "Chinese Opera-y". It's not at all, there's even a bassa nova beat to one of the songs. Now the problem is that my son demands listening to it pretty much constantly while we go over the book. It's seriously great and has increased his Mandarin vocabulary.
This is a beautifully illustrated book with numerous interactive and well-toned chants!
It is a great book for both schools and independent Chinese learners.
Kids will love it!
We purchased this book for our daughter, who is enrolling in Chinese immersion school. We all love the songs and she's getting a great start on her Mandarin vocabulary!
there is not CD attached!!!
This album is great for learning all sorts of basic everyday Chinese words, from greetings to sports to the weather. It is definitely geared towards families teaching young children Chinese. The accompanying book provides lyrics, definitions, and additional vocabulary. My only criticism of the CD is that the songs are sort of boring. They aren’t catchy at all and I would never choose to listen to this CD if I wasn’t teaching mandarin to my toddler.
update190930 Ran the audio through an equalizer. filtered out the bass, accentuated the mid range. Audio is now pretty reasonable so I will be keeping the item. Original reviewBook is good. I am learning/trying to learn Mandarin and this gives me things I can repeat in my head. But the audio CD quality reminds me of a cassette. When you are trying to learn tones it doesn't work well at all for me. I am going to try the newer edition and see if the audio is better. Note that I bought this because of a youtube video and the sound was much better on that video.
